In my third year of Uni, I was tasked to create a game with a tutorial with a partner. The tutorial had to be very good: not intrusive, and teach the player well. In our pair, we created Bazooka Boy, a high-score game where you use a bazooka to blast yourself to the finish as fast as possible.
The game was designed to have very simple rules, but complex strategies if you want to go faster. There are five tutorial levels, and ten main levels. You use the WASD keys to move, and the mouse to fire your bazooka. In each level, there are bronze, silver, and gold medals you can earn based on how fast you completed it (like TrackMania).
I mainly designed the art, added the animations, and implemented a few of the levels, and my partner (Tom) programmed the physics. I went for a Worms World Party look-and-feel (thick outlines and pastel colours), to give the game a cute cartoony look, so shooting yourself with a Bazooka won’t look so bad :)
